I have long been a fan of ‘Just Another Apostate’ who has created no end of powerful and meaningful posts on Facebook. Please do visit the page.

Many posts state the obvious, in ways most Mormons simply cannot (or wilfully refuse) to see or even begin to understand and accept. I have reposted a number on ‘The Mormon Delusion’ Facebook page and thought this month I would share the page and this recent post here – one to which there is absolutely no logical, rational (or remotely sensible) argument at all, as many religions, Christian and otherwise, do understand and accept the scientific reasons for same sex attraction and embrace gay marriage. The Mormon Church fails to recognise that actively opposing gay marriage actually now undermines the beliefs of many other religions, not just gay people and their human rights. This is far from morally acceptable; it is cruel and unkind; moreover, it is completely unchristian and entirely reprehensible – not to mention hypocritical in the extreme, as shown here:

“We claim the privilege of worshiping Almighty God according to the dictates of our own conscience, and allow all men the same privilege, let them worship how, where, or what they may.” -Joseph Smith, LDS Article of Faith 11, found in the Pearl of Great Price. (If freedom of religion is to apply, it has to apply to everyone, which means that your religious beliefs don’t get to dictate what laws other people have to follow. If you believe God says that people shouldn’t marry someone of the same gender, then you are free to not marry someone of your same gender. If you are LDS and you try to force your religious observances on other people, you are acting in clear violation of the eleventh Article of Faith. I don’t think Jesus would ask his prophets to do that. But what do I know? I’m just another apostate.)
